I did say in the end that he could be a knight [when I did the proverbial comparison of senatorial bets to race horses
(May 13 blog post)], and on Wednesday, he became a knight. He said: “…I concede to so as to enjoin my allies and friends who may want, in their desire to have me win, commit acts inimical to the essence of democracy and fair play in an electoral battle…” (a portion of Mike Defensor’s statement, May 30, 2007). Then he rode away in the slight mid-day drizzle with his beautiful wife (who’s an excellent marksperson/ sharpshooter) and bubbly children.
Wait. I have a question. Before you’re fully knighted:
When you said “to enjoin my allies and friends who may want, in their desire to have me win, commit acts inimical to … fair play in electoral battle…” :
Who are these allies and friends? Are they in the cabinet level or in the local government level? Or in the Comelec level? Or do you refer to the President? She is your ally, isn’t she? Or to Ed Ermita and Gabby Claudio? They are your allies and colleagues, and Ed Ermita said that the day before you issued your i-concede-statement you met with them and he said they were ribbing you about something. Or the new-found friends of Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento: Boy Macarambon, Lintang Bedol, Jubil Sormieda; Rene Sarmiento was a colleague/ friend of yours so they are friends of your friend…
Some other time… I’ll concede: you deserve your knighthood.
